Special Installation to coincide with publication of her new book, I Am Not This Body
November 24, 2001, New York, NY –– Curt Marcus Gallery announces a special installation of works by Barbara Ess to coincide with the publication release of I Am Not This Body: Photographs by Barbara Ess, on view December 7th through 15th, 2001. I Am Not This Body is published by Aperture and features texts by Michael Cunningham, Thurston Moore, Guy Armstrong and Barbara Ess. Showing in the main gallery will be a selection of Ess’ work from 1983 to the present.
I Am Not This Body is a 96 page full-color monograph (the artist’s first major publication) and includes 65 images of her work. As written in the opening paragraph of the book, "Barbara Ess is renowned for her unparalleled use of the pinhole camera, and her effort to ‘photograph what cannot be photographed’– the unseen world of sensation, thought, and emotion. The haunting images she has created over the last twenty years are gathered in the lushly produced I Am Not This Body."
